Water Quality

Nitrates affect the stream health because the excess nitrate causes algal blooms that reduce water quality.

Ph- if the Ph is too low it can kill the animals in the stream because it becomes acidic.

Conductivity- Conductivity measures the ability for water to produce an electrical current, if the water is pure that means it is a poor conductor.

Turbidity- more sediment equals lesser light which mean siltation can occur and kill off the animals and aquatic plants.

Dissolved Oxygen- lower the oxygen the less fish because the fish use the dissolved oxygen to be able to live under water and the warmer the water the lower the dissolved oxygen levels.

Temperature-  If the water is too hot the aquatic life will die off because the dissolved oxygen will die off.  If the water is cool more aquatic life will live because the colder the temperature the higher the dissolved oxygen. Also when it is hot outside the water will rise and streams will be lower.

Alkalinity- if the alkalinity is too low the water will become acidic, which can make the aquatic life die off.

E-coli- use of fertilizers raw sewage releases create excessive levels of nitrates. If the community were to eat the fish out of the water they could get kidney damage because of the bacteria in the water.
